ECDIS Data Presentation and Performance Check in Ships

INSTRUCTIONS and RESULTS REPORTING FORM

The IHO has produced two simple fictitious ENC datasets that are designed to alert mariners to the possibility that their ECDIS software may require upgrading.  Results from the checks will enable the IHO to identify how the different brands of ECDIS display and handle chart data. This information will be used to inform the IMO, national Hydrographic Offices, ECDIS manufacturers and others, so that they can take any corrective action that may be necessary.

The checks should be run at least once for each ECDIS.
A re-run is required only after a software update, system upgrade or change of equipment, and should be reported to the IHO only if anomalies are found.

The ENC DATA can be downloadedHERE.

(The ENC_CheckData.zip file must be unzipped to access the ENCs)

The INSTRUCTIONS for loading the data, carrying out the checks and submitting the results to the IHO can be downloadedHERE.
