Brief History:

The MACHC was originally established as the Caribbean Sea-Gulf of Mexico Hydrographic Commission (CGMHC) in Havana, Cuba, on 25-27 May 1994 on the occasion of its first meeting at the initiative of Cuba, The Netherlands, United States of America, Guyana and Mexico. Its first Chairman was Captain Juan Fung Riverón, President of the Cuban Hydrographic Institute. The first meeting concentrated on Training, Electronic Charts and INT Charts in the Caribbean Region. The original Commission expanded in 2002 to include the Pacific waters of Mexico, the Central American Members and Colombia and was renamed as MACHC. In 2005 the Commission further expanded to include the Western Atlantic waters and Brazil became a member.

Brève histoire:

La CHMAC fut initialement créée en tant que commission hydrographique des Caraïbes et du golfe du Mexique (CGMHC) à la Havane, Cuba, du 25 au 27 mai 1994, dans le cadre de sa première réunion tenue à l´initiative de Cuba, des Pays-Bas, des Etats-Unis d´Amérique, du Guyana et du Mexique. Son premier président fut le capitaine de vaisseau Juan Fung Riverón, président de l´Institut hydrographique cubain. La première réunion s´est concentrée sur la formation, sur les cartes électroniques et sur les cartes INT dans la région des Caraïbes. La commission initiale qui s´est élargie en 2002 pour inclure les eaux pacifiques du Mexique, les membres d´Amérique centrale et la Colombie, a été rebaptisée commission hydrographique de la Méso-Amérique et de la mer des Caraïbes (CHMAC). En 2005, la commission s´est encore élargie pour inclure les eaux atlantiques occidentales et le Brésil en est devenu membre.

Special meeting of the MACHC, Cartagena, Colombia (31 May 2005)
A special meeting of MACH was held in Cartagena, 31 May 2005 taking advantage of the attendance of many Central American and Caribbean Countries to the Technical Workshop on Capacity Building organized by the IHO Capacity Building Committee and funded by the CBC and the UKHO. See below the report of the meeting.
