3. Capacity Building Provision
3.1. Technical Workshops Technical Workshops are events where a particular subject is discussed and the experience gathered by developed countries will be shared. For the time being Technical Workshops are oriented to support the establishment of the first phase of hydrographic capability the ability to gather hydrographic information and to promulgate it in a timely and efficient manner through communication with area co-ordinators of navigational warnings and with charting hydrographic offices. Various Technical Workshops have been held recently.
3.2. Technical Seminars The objective of Seminars on Capacity Building is to raise awareness at governmental level of the importance of hydrography to safety of navigation and national economic development, and to explore initiatives of common regional interest. The following Seminars have been organized to date.
3.3. Short Courses 3.3.1. MSI Courses
These courses provide training on Maritime Safety Information and are prepared by the IHO World-Wide Navigational Warnings System Sub-Committee (WWNWS) with the support of the IHO CB Fund. The following MSI courses have been successfully organized to date.
3.3.2. Support for attendance to multi-beam courses
The IHO Capacity Building Fund finances the attendance of selected students from different regions to Multibeam Sonar Training Courses. The objectives of the courses being to train hydrographers in the use of the multi-beam systems to carry out hydrographic surveys, with special emphasis on the technology and problems associated with surveys in shallow waters.
3.3.3. Miscellaneous courses.
Thanks to the funding provided by the CBSC, various short courses have been run, addressing relevant subjects. The following are to be NOTED.
3.4. Projects
The IHO also cooperates with other international organizations in developing and providing joint projects, with a view to supporting the progress of hydrography, nautical cartography and related sciences world wide. Some of these projects are listed HERE.
3.5. Training Opportunities The IHO provides on an irregular basis information on training opportunities from the governmental, academic and private sector. Each time the IHB is made aware of such opportunities a brief description of it is compiled and offered under this section with the contact e-mail address for further information. Below you will find the information we have at this time: January - February 2014: IIC Academy Multi-beam Echo Sounder Training Course The five day course will be conducted at IIC Academy in Vizag (India) in late January or early February, 2014.
