S-100 Master Plan and S-100 Maintenance Schedule

Last update: April 03, 2018

The IHO has developed a new standard called S-100 IHO Universal Hydrographic Data Model to provide a contemporary hydrographic geospatial data standard that can support the variety of hydrographic-related digital data sources, products, and customers. This includes new spatial models to support imagery and gridded data, 3-D and time-varying data (x, y, z, and time), and new applications that go beyond the scope of traditional nautical charting such as high-density bathymetry, seafloor classification, marine GIS, etc. S-100 is also available to underpin the development of various applications such as e-navigation and marine spatial data infrastructures.

At its 5th meeting (November 2013, Shanghai, China), the HSSC considered a draft "Master Plan for the development and implementation of
S-100". At its 7th meeting (November 2015, Busan, Republic of Korea), the HSSC endorsed Edition 1.1 - June 2015.
The S-100 Master Plan is a living document which is reviewed annually by the S-100 Working Group.

The IHO's S-100 Working Group (responsible for maintaining the Standard) recognises that, the standard must evolve in order to cater for new user community requirements and has developed a planned revision cycle for the Standard. User communities are invited to submit proposals for corrections and/or extensions to the standard, for inclusion in the next planned edition. The S-100 planned publication schedule is provided below. Submissions should be sent to S-100WG Secretary (addt(at)iho.int) in accordance with S-100 Part 12 Maintenance Procedures.

S-101 Value Added Roadmap

The intention of the roadmap document is to provide an estimated timescale and sequence of events for the development, testing and implementation of the S-101 ENC Product Specification.  The sequence of activities is supported by a more detailed account of the various processes and impacts which are anticipated to have an effect on the various stakeholders.

At its 4th meeting (25-28 September 2012, Taunton, United Kingdom), the HSSC tasked TSMAD to add an additional work item to its work plan to produce a roadmap, taking into account the S-101 impact study and showing key tasks that have to be completed in order to implement S-101. The current draft of the S-101 Value Added Roadmap (April 2016) can be downloaded here.
