IHO ENC TEST DATA SETS

The ENC test data sets, produced by Hydrographic Offices on behalf of the IHO, are divided into:

• Unencrypted ENC Test Data Set (4.5 MB). An intial version of this TDS was produced in 2008 by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It was enhanced in 2012 by the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO).
• S-63 Encrypted ENC Test Data Set (92 MB). This TDS was produced in 2008 by the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) and revised in 2009, also by the UKHO.

An intial version of a guide, known as TDS Instruction Manual (TIM), was developed in 2008 by the IIC Technologies Inc. under contract to NOAA. It was enhanced in 2012 by the UKHO. The TIM provides supporting documentation about the organization, understanding, and use of the ENC TDS and is intended to be used along with the data sets included in the TDS. It aims to provide appropriate comments about each test including the information about the most suitable data elements, their location and the expected test results. 

The S-63 Encrypted ENC TDS is further completed by a document providing Test Definitions and Scripts relating to Annex J of IEC 61174.

COLOUR Graphic Plots of the ENC Test Data Set

In addition to the ENC test data sets mentioned above, Annex F to IEC 61174 calls for colour graphic plots of the ENC TDS. Furuno Finland kindly generated in 2008, on behalf of the IHO and under technical supervision by the IHO Digital Information Portrayal Working Group (DIPWG), a set of plots provided as PDF files. They conform to Edition 3.1 of the IHO Transfer Standard S-57  and Edition 3.4 of the IHO Presentation Library for ECDIS (Annex A to S-52). Some of these plots have been updated in 2012 by the UKHO.
